Droopy eyelids are a common complaint from older patients due to the aging changes of the upper eyelid skin and sometimes the droopy eyebrows. This can lead to a ‘hooded’ appearance of the upper eyelid and result in the loss of the double eyelid crease.
We treat this skin condition using a non-surgical method called thermage. This uses mono-polar radiofrequency energy to stimulate the production of collagen in the skin to tighten it.
● Thermage was U.S. FDA cleared in 2002 for electrocoagulation and hemostasis of the skin.
● In 2009, it was U.S FDA cleared for the noninvasive treatment and periorbital wrinkles and rhytids, including upper eyelids and lower eyelids.
The results are best seen 2-3 months after the procedure. An eye shield is inserted to protect the globe of the eye during the procedure. The treatment can be repeated yearly.
Droopy eyebrows are treated with a combination of botox and skin fillers. Botox relaxes the downward pull of the eyebrows, whereas fillers augments the upper orbital bony framework.
|TREATMENT TIME||60 minutes||30 minutes|
|DOWNTIME||None||Usually none. Sometime slight bruising can occur. This can last for 1 week and resolves uneventfully.|
|PAIN||Mild to moderate. Managed with anaesthetic cream and oral anti-anxiety medication or pain killers.||Slight injection pain, that is manageable with majority of patients. The treated areas are numbed using an anaesthetic cream for 30 minutes.|
|REPEAT TREATMENTS||1-2 years. If severe skin laxity, can repeat in 3 months for better results.||6 – 12 months|
|RESULTS||2-3 months to show the results. Visible tightening and “lifting” of the eyelids can be seen immediately.||A lifted eyebrow, opening of the eyes, reduce expression lines. Fillers augments the upper orbital bony framework.|
|RECOMMENDATIONS||Highly recommended for patients in their 40s and above with mild to moderate skin laxity in the cheeks, neck and upper eyelids.||Patients who desire to have fresher looking eyes, eye bag reduction and face lifting|
